Half Marathon Anyone?

I got very excited this weekend talking to two new/old friends. I met these ladies a couple of years ago through a good friend who was getting married at the time. We were able to connect for the wedding festivities and had a great time getting to know each other.

Now, two years later, this same friend is having a baby so I was reunited with my new/old friends at the baby shower. While everyone else was talking about the new bundle of joy, I got lost in conversation about...what else, fitness and well being! As I was eating a dessert, one of these new/old friends said to me "how do you stay so thin and still eat like that?" First of all, I was flattered, as most of us would be, that she called me thin. Secondly, I thought about how DO I stay in shape and still let myself eat treats? Well, it is all about the balance.

Therefore we embarked on a great journey talking about the importance of a healthy weight, keeping family history in check, ways to minimize cellulite and all sorts of things that trip my trigger. We also talked about cardio vs. weight lifting vs. yoga. I think ALL of these are important for a balanced fitness program. Then, they asked me about running.

Well, those of you who know me, know that I started running about 5 years ago. At the time, I started running to lose weight. Then I got really into the sport of it, ran a few 5ks and finally, my first half marathon. ( I have since run a total of 7 half marathons). My most memorable, without a doubt, is my first. If you could see my photo crossing the finish line, pony tail flying, arms raised and pumping, screams (yes, screams) of elation bursting from my mouth, you would know how excited and proud I was. And yes, you can even see the screams in the photo! :-)

Anyway, to pull it all in the driveway (as my husband would tell me!), I tossed out the idea of running the Capital City Half Marathon this Spring to my two new/old friends. It would be a fun challenge that we could all do together. An invitation, not an expectation. We'll start training in January. Anyone else interested?

Kudos to you for your dedication! I can totally relate to your excitement after crossing that finish line.

I was bitten by the running bug early last year as well after our miscarriage. I had already walked the Capital City 1/2 marathon and decided to walk/run another one earlier this spring.

If I wasn't due in February, I would join you to train. I'm hoping that I can at least walk this years, run a few 5Ks this summer and then train for the 1/2 in the Fall.

What an adrenaline rush! I miss running a lot right now.

Well you certainly have more important things to be focusing on and you will have plenty of time to get back to running once you have your healthy little one here safely! :-) And a great way to get back in shape as well.
