How Sweet It Is...

I know, I know....I am terrible! It has been a month since my last blog post. I guess that thing called life and the job that pays my bills have gotten in the way of some things I really like to do!

So yes, it is March and I am still blogging about my "new years" goals and how I need all of you to keep me accountable and help me stay on track. So far, I think I am doing ok with the goals...at least feeling really good about where I am with life at the moment.

This brings me to the next goal on my 2009 list...limit sugar. Interesting timing on this post. I have a dear, dear friend with whom I love to share wine and you guessed it, dessert (mostly anything chocolate and add peanut butter and we are out of control!) She has decided to give up sugar for Lent. Now growing up Baptist, I never really observed Lent. (See a great post from another dear friend who had the same upbringing as me. She sums it up better than I ever could.) When my friend told me she was going to give up sweets for Lent I thought, hmmm, not sure I could do that. Then of course I went back to my good old goal list for 2009, realized I needed to do a blog post and wouldn't you know it, limit sugar was next.

There was a period in my life about a year and a half ago when I went on a very lean diet (trying to drop body fat) and I gave up all sugar for about 7 months. I know...what was I thinking? After the first few weeks, it became pretty easy for me and I even lost the craving for sugar. I eat much less of it now (unless I am hanging out with the aforementioned friend!) but I do eat sweets.

I have a good reason to limit my intake now because my "partner in crime and all things chocolate and peanut butter" is out of commission for the next month. I guess I can learn something from her and I can take one for the team as well.

What are your thoughts on sugar? (Not the substitutes, I don't do those. Only all natural Stevia). I would love to hear your thoughts. And thanks friends...you really are helping me smile, sigh, and stay on track!

Hey girlio...haven't been checking blogs much lately...looks like I missed a few posts. Agree with you 100% on sugar substitutes...BLAH!!! The stuff will kill you. We don't do much refined sugar at all. Our favorite is raw agave nectar (tequila anyone?). It is a very mild tasting golden liquid. It's simply sweet, with no distinct flavor (like honey) and no aftertaste (like substitutes). I use it in absolutely everything.

You really have to be careful to get raw though...there are some very inferior brands out there and you might as well drink corn syrup and save your money.

Here's a pretty informative link
